Keep Your Hardwood Floors Beautiful

By Uncategorized No Comments

Hardwood floors look gorgeous in any home. Whether you are putting down new hardwood
floors or refinishing old floors, you are sure to end up with a beautiful look. Hardwood floors are
a classic, quality flooring that will stand the test of time. How do you keep your floors looking
beautiful throughout time? We will share a few things we have learned to help keep your floors
looking beautiful through the years.
With foot traffic and moving furniture, your floors can be easily scratched. To prevent this, use
rugs in your high traffic areas. Rugs protect and beautify! If you are moving furniture, it is a
good idea to use felt pads on the legs of chairs and other furniture. These ideas will help, but
life happens, and so do scratches. If a scratch does occur, a quick fix option would be a scratch
repair pen. Just pick the color that matches your stain and you can cover that scratch in an
instant.
If not done properly, cleaning can diminish the beauty of your floors. Too much water can warp
it. Vinegar is a wonderful disinfectant, but it is acidic and can eat away your finish. A neutral
cleaner would work best. Couple it with a microfiber mop to get a clean and shiny floor. Before,
and in between mopping, using a vacuum with a hard floor setting is a great way to pick up dirt,
dust and debris without scratching your floor.
One more potential issue to look out for is sunlight. Direct sunlight on your floors can fade the
color over the years. Utilize shades and window treatments to protect them.
Hardwood floors are a quality investment for your home. An investment worth protecting.
Incorporating some of these tips in your floor care routine will hopefully help to keep your
hardwood floors beautiful for years to come.

Low Cost Bathroom Floor Update

By Uncategorized

When updating your home, bathrooms are one of the most recommended rooms to update to
add monetary value to your home. Updating your bathroom also just makes you feel better
about being in that space, a space we use everyday, multiple times a day. When it comes to
flooring, replacing your bathroom floor can be pricey. If you are not quite ready for that kind of
investment, we have put together a few ideas to update the floor you already have.

If you already have hardwood floors but it is looking worn or outdated, you can simply paint it!
Painting your hardwood hides imperfections like dents and gouges. It will transform that rough,
worn floor into a more finished looking floor. Make sure you choose a paint specifically for
hardwood floors. You can choose any color that matches your new scheme. Finish it off with a
top coat/sealer to protect it and keep it beautiful for years to come.

Maybe you have an outdated tile floor. You can paint that too! A fresh, new color is an instant
update. You can also create the sophisticated look of designer tile through stenciling. If you go
with stenciling, make sure you have already freshly painted your tile and finished off with a top
coat. Once it dries, then you are ready to stencil. It is a good idea to add another top coat after
stenciling to keep your design scratch free and beautiful.

When you are improving and updating your home, the expanses really add up. New flooring is
generally one of the most expensive updates. These low cost ways to update your already
existing floor will save you tons of money, not only on materials but also on hired labor. We
hope these ideas help you with your bathroom floor update!

Should I Install Wood or Carpet on my Stairs?

By Uncategorized

Choosing a type of flooring for a set of stairs can be a difficult choice. Often, we want the
flooring on the floors of our house to match, but it is considered more acceptable for stairs to be a different material. That leaves us with the question, should I install wood flooring or carpet on my stairs?
Wood flooring can give your home a modern feel, but it can also cause some safety concerns.
Wood stairs can be slippery and if you happen to fall, there is no cushion to support you. Carpet
will provide more traction and a softer landing if someone should trip and fall. This is definitely
something to consider if you have young children or elderly ones living in the home. Wood
stairs can be loud, there isn’t much sound absorption. On the other hand, carpet is great at
absorbing sounds. This would be something to think about, especially if your family is large and
many people (children) will be running up and down the stairs on a constant basis.
Wood flooring on stairs is certainly easier to clean than carpet. A quick sweep and mop is all it
takes. Carpet will require a bit more attention, especially if it is a high traffic zone. Oftentimes a
good quality vacuum is needed. Spot cleaning the carpet on your stairs is inevitable. We
always recommend hiring a professional to come in at least twice a year for a good deep clean
of the carpet on your stairs.
Installing new wood on your stairs will usually cost more than installing carpet. If you have older
wood, consider refinishing it, as this should save you money. As a general rule, carpet is
cheaper than wood, but do your research and have a reputable installer come and lay it for you.
A good installer, along with a good maintenance plan will extend the life of your carpet.
There are several factors to consider when deciding on wood or carpet for your stairs. Each
home and each family is different. Whatever choice you make, we hope it is the right one to fit
your family’s needs and lifestyle.

Save Money While Replacing Your Carpets

By Uncategorized

Replacing any type of flooring can be expensive. Replacing old carpet is no exception. If you are willing to roll up your sleeves and get your hands a little dirty, you may be able to save some money. For example, have you considered pulling up the old carpet and pad yourself? This would definitely save you some money, but you will have to have a plan of disposal. Ripping up the carpet and pad yourself will also give you an idea of what is underneath. If some simple repairs need to be done or some extra cleaning needs to happen, you may be able to accomplish these things yourself, again saving you money.

Move the furniture. Did you know that some installers will charge extra for moving furniture? If at all possible, move everything out of the room where you are replacing the carpet. If you are not able to do the heavy lifting yourself, try and have a plan of where the installers will move the furniture. This will save everyone time. Try to declutter the furniture. This means picture frames, candles, really any sort of knickknack. Again, this will save the installers a lot of time which means you will save money.

Be ready to paint. When installing new carpets, walls and molding may take a little bit of a beating. The installers can’t help it. You can be prepared by having the paint color ready and doing the touchup work yourself.

Last, but not least, have a good maintenance plan in place. You have just spent money putting in beautiful new carpets and it is up to you to take care of them. Learn how to upkeep the type of carpet you have chosen. Invest in a good vacuum (and then use it!). Have a schedule where you get your carpets professionally cleaned. Having a maintenance plan put in place will save you money in the long run.

How To Choose Carpet, Plush Or Berber?

By Uncategorized

Carpets can really beautify your home. However, choosing the right type of carpet to put in your home can be daunting. Although carpet is not permanent, you want it to last for a good number of years. There are so many choices, how do you choose the best carpet for your home? Let’s explore a few differences between plush and berber to help you narrow down your choices.

Plush and berber carpets are both beautiful in their own right. They do, however, differ in purpose. It is important to think about where in your home the carpet will be placed. Is it a high traffic area? In that case, berber is your best bet. Its dense, tightly woven loops resist dirt for a cleaner look. Whereas plush is more loosely woven which absorbs more dirt. For these reasons, berber is also lower maintenance, as it is easier to clean. Plush is higher maintenance, as it requires more effort to pull the dirt out. Plush is a great fit in a low traffic area, such as a bedroom. It can make your bedroom feel cozy and comfortable while looking luxurious.

Plush may be a better choice for you if you have a baby or pets because it is so soft. Berber may not be a good choice in this situation because of it’s tightly woven loops. This creates a rougher surface that can cause carpet burns. Also, your pet’s claws can easily get caught in the loops and pull them up.

Both carpets have their benefits. Plush, with its luxurious look and soft feel. Berber, with its elegant designs and durability. Each one will serve its purpose beautifully. Hopefully these comparisons will help you make the right choice that suits your needs. Happy carpet hunting!

Is Having Your Tile Professionally Cleaned Worth It?

By Uncategorized

Often when we think of having floors in our house cleaned by a professional our minds naturally go to having our carpets cleaned. However, have you ever thought of having a professional come in and clean your tile? You may think that it is not worth it,that it is a job you can handle on your own. However, take a look down. That’s right, really look at your tile floors. In particular, take a close look at the grout. How does it look? When was the last time you cleaned it? Like, really cleaned it, on your hands and knees with a scrub brush? If we had to guess, we would say it’s probably been a while.

Cleaning grout is no fun and is often a household chore that is ignored. It can be messy, not to mention uncomfortable for your knees and back. Normal mopping will not result in a deep clean of the grout line. As a result, grout tends to have a buildup of dirt, grime and sometimes bacteria. It can become stained from spills that discolor the grout. Not being deep cleaned can cause mildew and mold to grow in the grout, which is not only unhealthy in your home but can cause your tile to appear old and ugly. Calling in a professional is definitely worth it!

A professional will know exactly what type of solution is needed to get the best result for your tile and grout. They will also have the right equipment so as not to damage your floors. They will leave your floors looking shiny and brand new as well as eliminating any health hazards. They will do the heavy scrubbing for you (no more aching backs and knees for you)! Have we convinced you yet? Hiring a professional to come in and clean your tile floors is totally worth it! Your tile, grout, back and knees will thank you!

Hardwood vs Laminate: Which is better?

By Uncategorized

Hardwood flooring vs. laminate flooring, which is better? Both types of flooring have pros and cons. Hardwood is the real deal. It is often found in older homes and can add quite a bit of value to any home. Hardwood floors come in many different styles and textures. You have many different choices of wood and finishes. Hardwood is long lasting, meaning it can be repaired, sanded down and refinished, often many times before it would need to be fully replaced. The biggest con to hardwood floors is the price. Installing new hardwood floors in a home is expensive. The materials and labor will cost more than laminate floors. If you install in a high traffic area, harwood can be scratched easily. If the same spot is hit by a lot of  direct sunlight, they can discolor over time. If water is leaking or constantly being spilled, the harwood will be damaged from the moisture.

Laminate flooring is basically imitation hardwood. That may sound bad, but laminate flooring has many pros, the number one being it is far less expensive than hardwood. Materials and labor to install a new laminate floor are significantly lower than harwood. Laminate flooring is easily maintained and easily cleaned. Laminate is not easily scratched and can withstand sun and water. However, if a laminate floor does need to be repaired it can be tricky, oftentimes the whole floor will need to be replaced. Laminate flooring comes in many colors and styles and varying price tags. Cheaper laminate will not look like hardwood, and will certainly not last as long. However, it can be a smart alternative depending on where you install it and it is much easier on the budget.

Choosing floors for your home is not easy, it is important to consider budget and lifestyle. If you decide to go with hardwood floors the added value and longevity of the floors outweigh the negatives. If laminate is your choice, your budget will be happy and cleaning will be a breeze. Whatever your choice, we just want to wish you, happy shopping!

What Color Carpet Should I Choose? Tips to Consider and Questions to Ask Yourself

By Uncategorized

Choosing the right color carpet for your space can be intimidating. It is a choice that will set the tone and feel for your home in the years to come. When it comes to making big decisions, it is important to take your time and consider all your options. Choosing a carpet color is certainly no exception. Here are a few tips to consider.

Shop around. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and guidance from the experts.  Bring home a lot of samples. Ask friends and family what they think. Try and imagine the look of each particular carpet color in your space. Ask yourself questions about each carpet color choice. For example, what color will best match your individual style? Will the color of your new carpet flow with the color and style of your furniture? How about the color of your walls? Your decor? Will you look back in a year and wish you had picked a different color? All good questions to consider.

Lifestyle should also have an impact on your choice. What is your family like? Are you single or do you have a partner? How about a cat or dog? Kids? Do you have large parties? If so, how often? How do you feel about vacuuming and spot cleaning? Does your schedule allow you to clean your floors on a regular basis or is it a chore that you often put off? The amount of traffic your carpet sees is an important aspect to consider when choosing the perfect color carpet for your room.

Keep in mind light color carpet will show dirt and stains and very dark colored carpet will show dirt, lint and dust. Try and find a happy medium. A color that is not too light and not too dark will usually work best in most homes. Choosing a carpet color may seem overwhelming, but with some help from others and some self reflection you will make the right choice for you, your family, and your home.
